Description

These soft, chewy, bakery-style cookies are packed with rich chocolate chips and made with simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for dessert, holiday baking, cookie exchanges, or an everyday sweet treat, this easy cookie recipe delivers delicious results every time.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix-Ins

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional Additions

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup pecans
  • Extra chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the eggs, one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Chill the dough for 30 minutes, if desired, for thicker cookies.
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto the baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden and the centers are slightly soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Chill for Thicker Cookies: Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes to reduce spreading and create thicker cookies.
  • Don’t Overbake: Remove the cookies when the centers are still slightly soft—they’ll continue to set as they cool.
  • Store Properly: Keep cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days to maintain freshness and softness.
