- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
For the Frosting
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Flag Decoration
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- 3 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk until smooth.
- Pour batter into pan and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip cream to stiff peaks and fold into the mixture.
- Spread frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
- Decorate with blueberries in the top-left corner and strawberry rows to form the American flag design.
- Chill until ready to serve.
